What happened?
Friends of the Light is a projection installation created by three Duluth based working artists. In February 2023, Tara Austin, Emily Koch, and Daniel Benoit worked together to create a public projection art exhibition presented at Duluth Minnesota’s Bayfront Festival Grounds. The trio worked together to device a process for capturing the hand painted strokes, and translating that footage into an animation like video projection experience.
This project was made possible by funding and support from the Duluth Public Arts Commission, and their collaboration with the Duluth Parks and Rec Department. Vibrant animations of native wildlife and Norwegian rosemaling accompanied the outdoor revelers as they skated around Bayfront Park’s free public ice rink.
